Selling Without Sleaze w/ Sarah Jolley-Jarvis

Podcast

Sarah Jolley-Jarvis, an Amazon International best selling author, sales trainer speaker, and agency owner. Sarah recalls how she was a woman on a mission to get a sales job and later realizing what she can offer sales teams can help them improve their craft. She figured that many salespeople are talented but are unable to get their message across effectively.

Being in a sales environment and always being field-based up until her product management role, Sarah’s transition from sales professional to running her own business had been rather smooth. Sarah believes that selling using your own style with a flow you are comfortable with is the most effective way to do it. Sleaze happens when people are told what to do or feel like they're being forced to, which results in them going out of character.

She also shares the importance of goal-setting and setting boundaries from the beginning, rather than enforcing them later on. Sarah also makes it a point to celebrate her wins and, when it's a tough month, to have a "love folder" which holds evidence to dispel any doubts of your abilities as a seller.

QUOTES

10:11 "I think the plus point of being in a sales environment and always being field-based up until my sort of product management role was that it is a little bit like running your own business, in like it's your own territory."

20:27 "You will attract people who are on that same level as you. If you're super assertive and either you're in everyone's faces and you're like buy, buy, buy, and that's what you're comfortable with and that's your personality... If you find yourself out on your own, then that's a bit of an opportunity for self-reflection.

22:51 "Following this script and they're just using that part of their brain that follows a script and it reads, they're not engaging the part of the brain that goes, hey, this is a bit much. Hey, I'm not sure about this."

33:09 "Goal setting. I love it. Every quarter, we work as a team and we look at where. We look at how we performed in the last quarter, what we could tuck up and strike off the plans."
